Idai Makaya has a wealth of experience in fitness and conditioning, gained through years of personal research. He started training regularly around the age of 8, when he began daily callisthenics sessions at home, every morning before school. At age 16 Idai took up jogging and weight training. This evolved into more dedicated training when Idai went to University at age 18. By the time he completed university, aged 23, Idai was able to run 10 miles in under an hour and was also able to bench press 250lbs and squat 400lbs in his weight training sessions. Aged 28, he managed to claim victory in an inter-gym push-ups competition - without any specific preparation. Having followed Boxing training and conditioning programs during his university years, Idai joined a Kickboxing club after he completed his studies. He later took up Tae kwon-do and trained to Black Belt level. Idai still does regular training in Kickboxing and Thai Boxing. He has worked as a part-time martial arts instructor at a number of clubs in different countries and regularly takes part in martial arts seminars. Idai’s training is motivated by health, self defense, fitness and disciplinary goals. He considers himself to be relatively inexperienced in competition fighting - although he managed to reach the Heavyweight Final in the 2003 British Tae kwon-do Championships. However, he is very experienced in genuine self-defense and street-fighting and his martial arts skills have yet to fail him in that context. Because of his extensive physical training experience and his efficient (minimalistic) approach to exercise, Idai has experienced very few training injuries and has learned to correct and avoid the ones he has picked up. He has also learned how to get the most out of his training - with minimal time investment - which allows him to dedicate his time and effort towards excellence in a number of different areas of endeavour.
