400-Mile Solo Challenge (16-18 August 2014)

Idai Makaya took on a solo Audax DIY 600k challenge in August 2014, tasked with riding a 400-mile course within a time-limit of 41 hours and 57 minutes.

Severe weather warnings turned it into an epic challenge as Idai battled fierce winds, ferocious rainstorms – and the fatigue of riding such a long distance under those conditions.

Eventually faced with the prospect of riding the entire distance without any sleep breaks, in order to keep his hopes of beating the time-limit alive, Idai was forced to face the prospect of remaining awake for 50 hours in total…
